Powder snow and a dreamy lodge
High alpine skiing and romantic days in a hut
Skiing on the Grossglockner and a stately mountain chalet
Heiligenblut-Großglockner and Mölltal Glacier - our two top ski areas
Our ski region is a high mountain ski area! Because our ski slopes really start at the 2,000-meter mark only. Where most other ski areas end. This guarantees you skiing pleasure on wide, sunny, kilometer-long natural snow slopes, and absolute snow security until spring. His Majesty the Grossglockner watches you all day long...
55 kilometers of racy slopes in high alpine terrain plus 1,400 hectares of officially designated freerider area for off-piste fans, that's what awaits you here in Heiligenblut-Großglockner, "The Top of Austria". On the three ski mountains Schareck, Viehbühel and Hochfleiss you will find sunny, snow-sure downhill fun up to almost 3,000 meters above sea level. All facilities will be fully operational again in the 2024/25 ski season, and numerous huts invite you to stop off, from family-run, down-to-earth to trendy après-ski locations. And because we are practically "at the end of the world" in winter, there are hardly any day visitors and no crowds at the lifts. Heiligenblut is an absolute insider tip, even in high season. Our webcams show you what the slopes currently look like.
The glacier ski area "Mölltaler Glacier" is only 10 kilometers as the crow flies from our chalet. The slopes there rise to well over 3,000 meters, and skiing usually starts at the beginning of October and runs until June. That's why the 36 km of high alpine downhill runs are used every year by the best skiers in the world to prepare for the winter sports season. The Mölltal Glacier is the official training area of the Austria Ski Team and the German Alpine National Ski Team. You can reach the valley station of the cable car in around 40 minutes by car. Those who are really sporty can even get there on touring skis, via the Kleinzirknitz-Scharte.
Our slopes offer sun and a fantastic mountain panorama all day long. An alpine tan is guaranteed, not least because of the crystal clear and completely dust-free mountain air in our Hohe Tauern. A good sunscreen is therefore a must, even at the beginning of January.
And in the evening there is a beautiful valley run to Heiligenblut, even in late winter. From there you can take the free ski bus to our village of Sagritz, from where it is about a 15-minute walk to the chalet. Or you can end the day in one of the quaint bars and restaurants in Heiligenblut and Großkirchheim.
You don't need to lug your skis around, we have a free ski safe for skis and boots for our guests in the valley station of the Rossbach cable car. It also takes about 15 minutes by car from us to Heiligenblut, and there is a large parking garage with plenty of free parking spaces near the valley station.
Even though sport is our main focus and Heiligenblut is a rather quiet winter sports resort, there is still no shortage of après-ski fun. DJ parties on the slopes, romantic night trips to the Schareck summit, tours behind the scenes of the cable car for those interested in technology, Zipfelbob challenge, children's fun on the school meadow - we have put together the current event program for the winter season here for you.
Your base is a stately, beautifully located mountain chalet, with perfect comfort, big enough for a winter vacation with family and friends. A former mountain farmhouse, built in healthy solid wood construction, located at 1,300 meters above sea level in an absolutely quiet, sunny location. Here you can experience hut romance with chalet comfort.
Three cozy bedrooms with natural wood furniture in the hut style, each with a balcony and a view of the 3000-meter peaks of the Hohe Tauern, and the peace and quiet of our secluded location ensure relaxation and healthy sleep. Of course, there is high-speed WiFi throughout the house and a smart TV with Netflix, internet browser and the most important streaming services.
The country house kitchen is perfectly equipped with a dishwasher, oven with ceramic hob, old wood stove and all kitchen appliances. Even elaborate dishes can be prepared well there, and the open architecture to the old parlor ensures conviviality and communication. Beautiful table linen, fine crockery and designer glasses make eating together an experience. And if you don't want to cook, we will be happy to spoil you with exquisite culinary delights such as fondue or raclette evenings, seafood dinners fresh from the Adriatic or a gourmet wine tasting from the owner's legendary wine cellar.
At our mountain house, your children can enjoy the winter without a care in the world. Romping around in the snow, building an igloo or snowman in the hut garden, snowball fights, everything is possible! Thanks to our secluded location, there is no more car traffic. Next to the Almchalet, only the winter hiking trail runs into the valley and, for those who like adventure, up to the 2,604 m high peak of the Mohar. There, you can play and romp around safely, and finally there is time for the children again.
Our historic hunting room, furnished with antiques, paintings and trophies and a wonderful view of the 3000 m peaks of the Schober massif, is the ideal place for a cozy evening. For a lively conversation, reading an interesting book or enjoying a good wine. There is deliberately no television or stereo system here - this is a place for communication like in the old days.
And if you want something a little quieter: A guided snowshoe excursion with a national park ranger. Nobody knows our mountains and explains the beauty of nature better than the full-time rangers of the Hohe Tauern National Park. In the winter season, there are guided tours with the rangers in our mountains every week, from easy beginner tours to night hikes to observing ibexes, the kings of our alpine animal world. These are holiday experiences that make winter holidays something special!
For you as our house guest, these tours are free of charge, because our Almchalet Goldbergleiten is an official national park partner! You can find the complete program and all dates here. Your dog is allowed to come along, if he is sufficiently sporty.
